Over The Rainbow Yarn
This January, we will help you bundle up and stay warm with classes on thrummed mittens and mega-fluffy brioche scarves!
Thrummed mittens incorporate bits of roving into your knitting to produce a thick layer of wool that traps warm air inside and has an effect like a lofty comforter for your hands. You can make your thrums larger or smaller to your taste. With use, the wool layer will felt a bit, becoming denser and thinner. Traditional thrummed mittens use natural white roving, but you’re welcome to go wild with dyed roving if you like.
In this class, we’ll learn the thrumming technique while following an Over the Rainbow Yarn original thrummed mitten pattern. Our pattern includes a plain lining, so you can enjoy the cozy warmth without the bits of wool sticking out between your fingers.
- Materials: Bulky-Weight Yarn in 1 or 2 colors, Wool Roving, US 10.5 Double-Pointed Needles
