Over The Rainbow Yarn
It’s funny how you can get to know someone by their knitting and feel intimately connected through the magic of yarn. Nancy Carr was a regular at Stitch ‘N’ Spin Circles and routinely prowled our shelves looking for the right shade of green, or a color that would play well against the right shade of green. Her singular sense of style and wild and free hand with color dovetailed beautifully with her empowered knitting expertise. Her busy mind and great sense of humor endeared her to many here at OTR. When she lost her battle with cancer in late December of 2014, our community lost a rare and wonderful friend.
In her memory, we would like to create a blanket that her husband can donate to the hospice ward that took such loving and gentle care of her in her last days. Please join us for a memorial Stitch ‘N’ Spin Circle on Wednesday, September 30th from 10 am to Noon. We’ll be sharing stories and memories of Nancy and working on pieces that can be assembled later into a blanket that tells the story of how much we miss her.
Make a square…or a triangle or a rhombus…in any color or combination you like. Use yarn from your own stash, get something new in “just the right shade of green,” or if you like, we have some yarns from Nancy’s stash that can be worked in. Nancy was not one for conforming, so let your imagination run free in celebration; she would have liked that.
If you are unable to join us on Wednesday, September 30th, but would still like to add a piece in memory of Nancy, you can drop something off, either before or after, and we’ll find a place for it in the blanket. We’d like to have it all finished before the first anniversary of Nancy’s passing in December so we’ll need to have all the pieces assembled by December 1st.
