Over The Rainbow Yarn
This year, Over The Rainbow Yarn is teaming up with Swan’s Island to offer an exciting Maine Fiber Experience. On June 8th at 1:30 pm, we’ll meet in Northport, Maine to tour the Swan’s Island dye house and get a glimpse of the weaving studio, before boarding at 5 pm. As usual, Over The Rainbow Yarn will be open early on June 10th for J&E Riggin knitters so we can pick up any last minute things before we head out.
We’ll start our cruise with a beachside natural dye experience with Jackie Ottino Graff from Swan’s Island. Using native dyes and seawater, and Swans Island’s popular organic merino yarns as a base, we will explore Maine’s rich offerings of native dye stuffs, as well as color layering and primitive dye methods over an open fire! Jackie and Swans Island are known for their mastery of natural dyes and rich colors on sustainable organic yarns.
When you’ve created your own hand dyed yarn, Mim Bird from Over The Rainbow Yarn will teach knitting techniques that show colors to their best advantage. Mim is best know for using using simple shapes that can be adapted to many different uses. She will offer three projects that use the same stitch to showcase your personal color way You’ll go home with a unique, wearable art piece.
