Double Knitting with Lauren
Date(s) - Sat, September 9, 2017
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Over The Rainbow Yarn
Using two strands and alternating knit and purled stitches, Double Knitting forms a thick, warm fabric that is totally reversible, with the same image in reverse colors on the alternate side. With double knitting, you can work designs that wouldn’t be suitable for stranded colorwork (like one single large-scale motif), you can work colorwork designs on an item that will be seen from both sides, and you don’t have to worry about tension problems usually associated with stranded colorwork because there are no floating strands.
Lauren will teach you how to cast on (both a simple double knitting cast on and an invisible double knitting cast on), how to work the basic double knitting technique, and how to follow a simple colorwork chart in double knitting. We’ll use the Rectangly Hat pattern by Catherine Hughes. Alternatively, you can follow Lauren’s Rose Hat chart (available at class) using the same basic instructions.
After you’re done with this class, you’ll be able to take any colorwork chart or draw your own and use it for a double knitting project.
Requirements: Ability to knit, purl, and knit in the round
Materials: 2 skeins DK or worsted weight yarn (1 in each of 2 colors), US 5 16″ circular needles, US 5 DPNs
This event is fully booked.
